Brenda and Tom are going out for the evening. The last thing they do is put their cat out. The taxi arrives, and as the couple walk out of the house, the cat scoots back in.
Terry returns inside to chase it back out. Brenda, not wanting it to be known that the house would be empty, explains to the taxi driver, "My husband is just going upstairs to say goodbye to my mother."
Several minutes later, an exhausted Terry arrives and climbs back into the taxi saying, "Sorry I took so long, the stupid idiot was hiding under the bed and I had to poke her with a coat hanger several times to get her to come out.

Miracle Fix
Fresh from the shower, I stand in front of the mirror, complaining to my husband that my breasts are too small. Instead of telling me it's not so, he comes up with a suggestion.
If you want your breasts to grow, then every day, take a piece of toilet paper and rub it between your breasts for a few seconds. Willing to try anything, I fetch a piece of toilet paper and stand in front of the mirror rubbing it between my breasts.
"How long will this take?" I asked. "They will grow larger over a period of years." my husband replied. I stopped. "Do you really think that rubbing a piece of toilet paper between my breasts every day will make them grow larger over the years?"
Without missing a beat, he says, "Worked for your butt, didn't it?" He's still alive and with a great deal of therapy, he may walk again someday.

Oil Spill
Yes,it definitely has been a long, long time since I posted anything on my blog. Indeed!!!! I've been thinking about it for some time now and decided to just do it. Procrastination! My number one fault and the story of my life, but more on that another day.
The news of President Obama losing his cool today sparked some thoughts on that subject.
Safeguards and regulations should been in place before anything like this ever happened.
The oil companies boast about stats where spills and mishaps have declined over the past many years, but that to me is no excuse. The devastation and damage done by the Exxon Valdez spill should have been a wake up call.
The oil companies have raped us for years and the governments of the world have been helping them by turning a blind eye, all for the sake of the mighty buck.
The heartache and grief as well as the hardships to come for the families of those killed and seriously injured in the Gulf of Mexico spill is so very sad, but the resulting devastation and economic chaos is going to be felt for generations and the big oil companies will continue to rake in the big money and nary a second of sleep will be lost by any of them. Greed will prevail.
The world needs to reduce it's energy consumption and dependency on oil. Global warming? That's just a myth, they say.
However, it's our children and grandchildren who will be left to suffer the consequences of that. That is, if the planet lasts that long. Enough said for now!

Snow In April
Ron, Louise, Karen and Jim all came down to see us, which was a nice lift to my spirits as I hadn't been feeling so great most of the time.
My appetite was not too good, my belly was growing and uncomfortable and I was cold most of the time. Also I was spending a lot of time on the toilet.
Thankfully Ron and Jim helped Craig fix the washing machine while they were here as I would never have been able to lift the dryer down or help move the washer.
A hose had come loose and it was making an awful racket whenever I needed to use it. They also gave the pool pump a whirl as it had a slight leak, but were unable to get it to budge.
The weather was a bit unsettled, but not too bad. Some of them even went for a walk down the greenway and around the neighborhood.
Mother Nature reminded us that winter wasn't quite over yet. We got a surprise snowfall, but it didn't last for long.
Jim and Karen brought pork cutlets along with them and introduced us to a dish with Panko crumbs. Yum, yum. It was a delicious and enjoyed by all I'm sure. Kick started my appetite I think.
It was a fun time and a good visit. We even got the chance to play some Joker too.

Car Show Parade

We took in the car show parade again this year and headed for our usual spot, but we left just a few minutes too late.
There weren't any parking spots way up close so I had to walk aways. It wasn't too bad though.
The ground was a bit uneven, but I just took my time and made it just fine.
The parade was pretty good. Of course we picked the wrong side of the street again with the sun shining in our eyes. Maybe next year we will smarten up!

Yuma House Warming

A little late, thanks to an unpleasant event, but as they always say, 'better late than never'.
The weather turned out alright, a little breezy, but warm.
However, typical desert weather, as soon as that sun goes down, so does the temperature.
Lots of good food and a pleasure to see everyone.
A couple of dishes in particular were a bit hit.
Doris and Mel brought Hawaiian Beans and Connie and Dave brought Cornmeal Casserole. I made sure to get the recipes for both.
The happy hours and gathering of friends is the only thing I miss about not being in a park.
We will just have to take ourselves to happy hours and maybe have a few of our own as well.

Yuma Birthdays

A couple of birthdays were celebrated in Yuma. Ron and Louise arrived first, just before her birthday.
She had decided to trim a little weight so to kick start her metabolism, she went on a cabbage soup diet.
She was quite rigid in her resolve to stay true to her regime, so of course no cake and ice cream for her. We did celebrate though and it was a good laugh.
Hal's birthday came next and he took us all out to dinner at the Olive Garden. Very good meal and a nice celebration.

Because we were having dinner out, we gave him a piece of cake at home before going out. Our miracle man looks pretty good eh!

Arrivals and Settling In

We flew back to Yuma on January 27. We settled in, then Louise and Ron arrived around the 12th I think, just before her birthday. A week later, Hal and Jeanette arrived.
All of them got to work right away, cleaning and sprucing up the place as I was useless with my hip and couldn't do much.
Louise and Jeanette cleaned and the guys scrubbed and washed down the outside trailer walls and windows.
We had been looking around for a washer tub of something for a fire pit so Jeanette and Hal bought us one as a gift.
Works well too except for the mesquite smoke. Pretty nice eh!

At Home For The Winter
No pictures until we get back to Yuma as we left all the cameras there when we were medi-vac'd home.
It hasn't been too bad for weather here this winter. We have only had snow three times and then, not much, which makes getting around easier.
Craig has been really good. He cleans the driveway off so well, it's bare when he is done.
I have been on Skype and the phone a lot keeping in touch with everybody asking about how I'm doing, which is really nice.
I've not been feeling that great as nothing tastes right and I don't have much of an appetite at all. I have to force myself to eat.
I've been getting around pretty good and doing physio at home, which is painfull. I'm also doing physio in the pool at the Kelowna hospital and that is great. It is only for half an hour, but that is enough. The water is so warm, I hate to get out because as soon as the air hits you, it's cold.
Those trips into Kelowna are exhausting and really tire me out. I have to force myself to do the physio at home because of the pain, but once I get through it, the pain eases.
We are flying back at the end of January, so I'm really looking forward to that.
Can't wait to get back to some heat.

Oops! Broken Hip

Too late. Didn't even see it. I'm already falling. I reached out and managed to grab something. It was the guy wire. It swung me around and I landed on my left side. I didn't fall very far, but I knew already I had a broken hip. It didn't hurt until they tried to pick me up, which of course is a natural reaction to someone falling. Aye!!! No way Jose'. So I got them to help me stand up onto my good leg and then tried to put weight on my left one. Nope.
Anyway, one of the Mexican fellows had a car and everybody helped load me in. That took awhile but went alright. Then he took us to the border lineup. Then the guys went looking for a wheel chair to use to get me across the border to our car. Once I got into the car, we had to drive all the way home because we didn't have our travel insurance with us and to drop off Don and Rhonda. Sitting in the car wasn't bad at all, it was the getting in and out.
Anyway, off to the hospital we go. Them two weren't too gentle getting out of the car either, I can tell you. I was already almost out. Just relax dearie, says one, we do this all the time. Ya right!
They had me all ready to go for surgery at the Yuma hospital, but the travel insurance says nope, we are flying her home. Then Craig had to scramble.
He had to arrange for someone to look after our affairs for us, move the trailer, pick up the mail, pack a bag, gather up important documents, arrange for a ride to the hospital, let everyone at home know etc. They flew us to Penticton in a medi-vac jet.
November 10th is winter in the Okanagan. We were both dressed in shorts and T-shirt. No jackets. I was alright, on a stretcher, covered up. I thank God for friends and family though.
Harry and Doreen looked after our place and everything else for us in Yuma. Jeanette and Hal drove all night to Penticton as they knew Craig would be stranded there with no transportation. Louise and Ron and Steve, Blake and Wade all came to see me too and to make sure I was alright. Hal and Jeanette drove Craig back and forth every day until I was back home and then they stayed for another week to help us out with looking after me.
It was very heart warming and we are ever so thankful to have so much support, help and get well wishes from friends and family.

Segway and Imperial Sand Dunes

Connie and Dave invited us to go for a Segway tour of old town Yuma with them and Connie's sister, who was visiting them at the time. The segway people were offering a special price for a group, so we took advantage of that.
We all went for breakfast in a neat old rail car that has been turned into a restaurant. Then it was off to have a quick lesson and onto the Segway tour. It was very interesting and a lot of fun. Those things are easy to run. Craig was a little apprehensive at first, but he got the hang of it soon enough.
Then we all took a drive out to the Imperial Sand Dunes. There is a replica of an old plank road displayed that was used to drive across the desert sands in the old days. When the planks got buried in the sand, they would just pull them up and carry on.
The new wall on the border between Mexico and the US can be seen from that area also. It gets buried by the drifting sands as well. The sections then get lifted up until they are on top of the sand again.
